A shaved cat butt, a birthday girl and Graves Disease (not necessarily in that order).

I haven't been blogging in a while. I just haven't had it in me. To blog, or much else. In mid August '09 I noticed that I was HOT. All the time. "I'm melting to the ground" hot. Now, I live in Colorado where the high can reach the 90's. I grew up in FL where you wear shorts on Christmas; I've lived in TX where 107 is a nice summer day. So, getting so hot I thought I would faint was not usual. I went to my Dr. for a check up who pointed out that I was 42 (thank you) and that I was the perfect age for menopause (thank you, again). Then I noticed the weight loss. And the shakes, and being HOT. And just the general "feeling like crap". So I went to another Dr who kindly did blood work instead of telling me that I was old. He sent me to another Dr. who specialized in Thyroid issues. He did more blood work (by that time it's been 2 months since I've noticed that I am on FIRE and I've lost 40lbs). It turns out that I have Graves Disease. Not as bad as it sounds and it's treatable. I have to go to Denver twice a month for blood work and what-not. The hyper-thyroid is transitioning to hypo-tyroid (it's supposed to). Still feel like crap, and it's sucked my will to do just about anything but eventually I will be better. If all goes well, in 2 years my thyroid will be cured. Fingers crossed...

Yesterday was my beautiful daughter's birthday. She turned 9. We had a family party and will have a friend party this weekend. She gets funnier, prettier and more wonderful each year. Her birthday wish was for her Gramma & Poppa to move to CO. I know something she doesn't know about that! Shhhhh....She also wanted a guitar. We were fortunate enough to find a purple one. Because everything is better in purple, don'tcha know. She also got a selection of Calvin and Hobbes books which she loves.

As the New Year arrives you go in hoping for a new beginning. For things to go a little better than the year before. For a little luck to be on your side. That was me in a nut shell. I ate a bushel of black-eyed peas which are the good luck food of choice for those of us from the south. I had my best girl's birthday. Things were looking good....until we noticed the boo-boo on our cat, Snowball's, bum. He had a scabish area on his bum the day before. It didn't look so bad. But on New Year's day it looked completely different--and GROSS. Off to the vet we go! He apparently was bitten by something and it was manifesting itself into something really disgusting. $500 later we went home with a little 5 pound cat who thinks he can take on anything and now has a shaved butt.

And finally, I have to thank Marry who commented on my most previous post and encouraged me to maintain my blog. I just haven't felt like it, but I'm going to try harder in the new year. Thanks!
